Walking from Platt

The second map is of Basted Mills Public Open Space showing the facilities and footpaths in the area.

Walk from Platt to Basted Open spaces 3.5 kms 45 mins  
This is a gentle walk passing through playing fields, a short distance on a country lane and then along a footpath all the way to Basted Mills Public Open Space. The footpath can be very boggy in winter and after heavy rain.
Sturdy trainers or walking boots are recommended.

Car parking is in Greenlands, a public road.
From the A25 turn into Long Mill Lane.
Greenlands is the first turning on the right.
If you reach the church you've gone too far.
From Greenlands return to Long Mill Lane. Turn left.  
Walk along Long Mill Lane. On the left is a tarmac track, a car width wide, opposite the house called the 'Millers'. Take this track into Stonehouse field.. 100
Continue on this track to the first bend. 200
Leave the track and continue on the footpath straight ahead. This a narrow footpath between two hedges. On the right you pass football pitches, a children's adventure playground (which has excellent facilities) and a Platt cricket pitch.  
At this point there are 2 routes  
OPTION 1 Continue on this footpath to Crouch Lane. At Crouch Lane turn left, Continue to Long Meadow Farm. 500
Turn right into the farm entrance. Immediately on the left there is a footpath (signposted) Take this footpath which runs parallel to Crouch Lane. This footpath continues straight and turns right infront of a house (Scotts Hole) 300
OPTION 2 - From the footpath in Stonehouse field go through the lefthand hedge (approx. 200 metres along path). Keeping the hedge on your right follow it round to meet a footpath. Turn right onto the footpath. Continue on the footpath to Crouch lane. Cross the lane and there is a footpath running parallel to Crouch Lane. Turn left onto footpath. You have joined the footpath that leads to Scotts Hole cottage. 300
Both options continue as follows. Turn right and continue following the footpath which will lead you to Basted Mills Public Open Space.This part of the walk can be quite muddy. The path takes you through woodland and down an incline. Continue on the path passing a stile on the left. 500
Once you have reached the houses at Basted you have two choices  
Choice1. Immediately you reach the houses look right. There is a footpath infront of the arch. If you take the steps the path leads above the houses. Just past the wired fence decend the steps onto the path which follows the lake, over a bridge and onto the picnic area. 500
